Can you believe that it’s the last day in January? 2013 is 1/12 over! It’s time to share some great blog posts from January 2013!
No Flu Tea Yikes, have you heard of all of the people getting sick lately? I hope that you and your families are well! Try this “tea” and see if it helps you avoid the flu! Also, check out this Roundup of Natural Cold and Flu Remedies!
5 Minute Chocolate Banana Ice Cream A simple recipe & GAPS legal! 🙂
Grain-Free Birthday Cake This cake looks so pretty! I love it when grain-freers (is that a word? :)) make things look so amazingly like a grain-filled treat. Have you seen the Grain Free Desserts cookbook that I put together with recipes from several bloggers? The photos are amazing. The recipes are amazing. These people are amazing! Note that this particular cake contains tapioca, which is a starch and is GAPS illegal. If you’re just a grain free foodie and not a GAPSter, hey, go for it! 🙂
Making Elderberry Wine So interesting! I’d love to try making our own wine someday, just for the fun of it! 🙂
Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon & Aged Cheddar Oh yum! My kids love brussels sprouts, do yours? Try them with bacon & cheese!

Bone Broth’s Health Benefits and another Bone Broth post. I love bone broth! It’s a miracle food! God is amazing, because He created such an amazingly nutrient-dense food for us. Don’t buy broth from a can or a carton, it’s worthless and nutritionally void. It does not have the magic properties of true, from the bones broth. It’s easy-cheesy to make your own! Just add bones to a pot of water. You can get fancy with spices, and onions, and vinegar, and other vegetables, but you don’t have to. The magic is in the bones!

Are Diet Sodas Making You Gain Weight? Are you a diet soda addict? Do you feel like you’re making a good choice, compared to the full-sugar (aka high fructose corn syrup) stuff? Read this post to see how diet sodas might actually be making you gain weight!
Is Stevia Healthy? While we’re talking about sugar-alternatives (in diet sodas), let’s jump over to Holistic Squid and learn about Stevia! 🙂
What does the word “Natural” actually mean? Ha, ha! I love it when products advertise that they are “natural”–it cracks me up! It doesn’t mean anything! There’s natural chlorine and natural mercury, but I don’t want them in my food! I love how this post defines “Natural” and describes the dilemma we face in over-using the word.

Acid/Alkaline Balance: Key to Good Health This is so true! Cancer grows in acidic environments. I think it’s a common myth (especially held by vegetarians) that if you eat meat, your body will be more acidic. Actually, folks, if you eat grains, your body will be more acidic. And, if you eat cows who ate grains, your body, like the cow’s body, will be more acidic. And, e.coli loves acidity. Eat grass-fed beef and eat less (or no!) grains, and follow the other tips in this post & you can learn to keep your body more alkaline! Also check out why Grass Fed Beef is Best!
Was the Whooping Cough Epidemic Caused By Unvaccinated Kids? Oh I love this post! Emily did lots of research, and it’s a good one!
Five Reasons I Do’t Recommend Going Vegetarian Part 1 and Part 2 I whole-heartedly agree with these posts. It’s difficult to be a real-foodie AND a vegetarian. It’s difficult to support the local food movement AND be a vegetarian. I respect vegetarians because I think that ultimately they care about their health. That’s a lot more than we can say for most of our country (drive-through-going folks who eat incredibly processed “potatoes,” fried in trans-fat laden, rancid vegetable oil…yup!). I believe that there is a place for a raw, vegan diet–during cancer (Gerson Therapy). Otherwise, I believe that our bodies need nourishment from fat-soluble vitamins that are only found in animal products. Anyways check out these posts!
The Dirty Secret Behind Heartburn Medications I love this post, because I’ve been wanting to share this very same information with all of you. Prilosec is not the answer to acid reflux! When I’ve eaten non-GAPS foods, I get acid reflux–sometimes severe acid reflux. When I eat GAPS, I am totally fine. The interesting thing is that modern medicine says to avoid fatty foods and meats to help acid reflux. When I eat GAPS, which includes a lot of fatty foods and meats but zero grains or sugar, my acid reflux is gone–completely gone!!! I don’t need Prilosec and all of it’s crazy side effects or Malox (which I took way too often during my second pregnancy–poor baby!). Diet controls my heartburn!
Prenatal, Natal and Post Natal Trauma Being a mom of a kid with Reactive Attachment Disorder, I “get” this. The trauma kids face so early in their life (and it is life when they are in the womb) is real, powerful, and damaging.
Emotions effect our lives I totally agree that emotions play a big part in weight gain. I think they also play a part in our ability to make wise choices about the foods that we put into our bodies. If you’re struggling, look at this post for help. Also, check out my post about How to Heal Your Brain!

How to Get a Good Night’s Sleep Again, this is a subject that has been on my mind lately. Sleep is essential to our overall health! I am naturally a night-owl, so this is a message that I need to listen to as well! Americans don’t need more anti-depressents or mood stablizing drugs, they need more sleep!
Beyond no ‘poo: washing only with water Who knew that hair care could be so simple? Seriously, we don’t need all of the junk that we put in our hair and on our bodies!
And, in case you missed them:
